Essential Oil Uses

The world of essential oils is indeed very fascinating; the more you learn about them, the more you will want to make up your own concoctions. To help you with day-to-day applications of essential oils, I have compiled a list of common ailments along with recommended oils for each and their method of use.  This guide will also help you decide which essential oils are best suited for you.

ACNE

Tea Tree, Geranium and Lavender Add 3 drops of each to 1 oz of Jojoba Oil .  Put some of the oil on your fingertips and apply on the face with press and release over face and neck.

ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION

Alegria Blend, Citrus Delight Blend, Rose Absolute  Put 3 drops of the either blend on a tissue, place it under the nose and inhale directly.  This method is recommended for an instant effect. Mix 10 drops of one of these blends with 1/4 cup unscented salts, to a bath and soak for 15 minutes.

ABSCESS (external)

Lavender, Tea Tree, Cooling Blend Dab the affected area with a few drops on cotton wool.

ASTHMA

Allergy Calm Blend, Blue Chamomile, Clary Sage, Marjoram Use any of these essential oils as a massage blend or in the bath. Massage the whole thoracic area -back and chest – to help bring relief from the feeling of tightness and placing a few drops on a tissue and sniffing the oil may help.

ATHLETES FOOT

Cooling Blend, Tea Tree Add a few drops to a footbath or dab the area with impregnated cotton wool.

BACKACHE – BACK PROBLEMS

Pain Begone Body Oil When your back hurts, put a 1/4 tsp of this Body Oil on your hands and massage the back twice a day.

BRONCHITIS

Essential oils that help bring up mucus will be beneficial. Cypress, Marjoram, Eucalyptus Radiata Combine 3 drops of each essential oil with 1 oz carrier oil.  Massage the chest and back and also use inhalations.

BURNS – SUNBURN

Allergy Calm BlendLavender, Helichrysum Mix 10 drops of one of these oils with 1 oz carrier oil and apply to the area, without massaging. Lavender can be added to the skin without a carrier oil to treat minor burns.

CANDIDA – YEAST INFECTION

Bergamot, Geranium, Lavender and Tea Tree or Cooling Blend on its own. Add 10 drops (in total) of oil to 30 ml of carrier oil and massage the abdomen and lower back. Mix a 6 drops of the oil with 1/4 cup of live yoghurt and take a sitzbath.

CELLULITE – CELLULITIS

Detoxing Body Oil  Use a Dry Brush and brush skin daily. Apply Detoxing Body Oil to legs and hips.  Use a smoothing massage mitt to help break up lumpy fat deposits.

CIRCULATION PROBLEMS

Body Oil for Circulation For varicose veins apply body oil very gently, locally to varicose areas with light strokes in an upward direction. For rheumatism and arthritis pain, apply liberally on joints. Also useful for cold hands and feet.

CYSTITIS

Cooling Blend, Juniper Berry, Lavender, Tea Tree Add 6 drops to 1 oz of carrier oil and massage the abdomen and lower back. (If the person has a temperature or is passing blood in the urine refer to their doctor ) Add a few drops of the oil to a bath.

EARACHE – OTITIS

Chamomile, Lavender Add 2 drops of each to a bowl of warm water.  Stir well and apply compresses to ear. Mix 2 drops of each with 1 teaspoon olive oil and massage around the ear area.

EXHAUSTION AND FATIGUE

Rosemary, Spruce and Geranium Add 5 drops of each to 20 ml of a carrier oil for general massage Adrenal Support Body Oil Massage vigorously over your body with special attention to the middle back on the kidney area where your adrenal glands are located.  Do it every morning.

HEMORRHOIDS – PILES

Cypress, Niaouli, Lemon, Geranium Add a few drops to a sitzbath or combine with carrier oil and apply locally.

HEADACHE

Headache Begone Roll On Massage around the temples, and the base of the skull.

IMMUNE SYSTEM (to boost)

Immune Support Blend Use as an inhalation Use Immune Support Body Oil for massage

INDIGESTION

Chamomile, Peppermint, Lemon, Mandarin Add  3 drops of each to 1 oz of a carrier oil and massage the stomach and anti clockwise on the solar plexus. Or use Digestive Body Oil.

COLD AND FLU – INFLUENZA

Peppermint oil will help to reduce the fever and ease congestion. (Do not use for babies or young children.) Muscular aches can be eased by baths or rubs using Marjoram and Lemon which will help eliminate toxins. You can also use Immune Support Body Oil and massage throat, chest and back. Tea Tree, Lavender, Ravensara, Niaouli, Lemon. Use as an inhalation, in a bath or as a massage combined with a carrier oil (don’t massage in cases of high temperature)

INSOMNIA

Sleep Time BlendBlue Chamomile, Marjoram Put 1 drop of one of them on a tissue and tuck it under the pillow case. Take a bath with  a total of 10 drops of essential oil mixed with with 1/4 cup of unscented salt.

LYMPHATIC CONGESTION

Fennel, Juniper Berry, Rosemary, Geranium Combine 3 drops of each oil with a carrier oil for massage. Or use Detoxing Body Oil.

MENOPAUSE SYMPTOMS

Clary Sage, Geranium, Chamomile, Rose Absolute Add 3 drops of each to 1 oz of carrier oil to give a relaxing full body massage. Or use Woman’s Help Body Oil. Add a few drops of oil to the bath.

MOUTH ULCERS AND GUM INFECTIONS

1 drop of Tea Tree, Geranium and Lavender added to half a glass of water for use as a gargle.

PERIODS

1. PAINFUL Radiare Blend, Blue Chamomile Add 5 drops of each oil to 1 oz of carrier oil and give full body massage. 2. IRREGULAR Blue Chamomile, Clary Sage, Geranium Add 3 drops of each oil to 20 ml of carrier oil for massage. 3. HEAVY Cypress Add to carrier oil for massage

PMS

Lavender, Blue Chamomile and Geranium Add 4 drops of Lavender and 3 of Chamomile and Geranium to a 1 oz carrier oil or apply Woman’s Help Body Oil. Massage the whole body using relaxing strokes. Add a few drops of the oils to a bath.

RHEUMATISM AND ARTHRITIS

Body Oil for Circulation or Rosemary, Marjoram and Blue Chamomile Add 5 drops of each to 20 ml of a carrier oil and massage into the affected area. Or use Body Oil for Circulation. Add 10 – 15 drops of the essential oils to a warm bath and soak for 15 minutes.

SINUSITIS

Allergy Calm Blend or Lavender, Eucalyptus and Tea Tree,  (for inhalations) Rosemary, Bergamot and Juniper (for massage) Add about 3 drops to a bowl of hot water and inhale. (Do NOT use this method if an asthma sufferer.) Using 3 drops of each essential oil to 1 oz of carrier oil massage around the base of the skull using circular movements, press on the acupressure points at the base of the nostrils and at the inner corners of the eyebrows and gently work along the eyebrows using a pinching movement.

SORE THROAT

Immune Support Blend or Tea Tree and Lavender In an empty glass, mix 1/2 tsp of salt with 6 drops of essential oil.  Add the juice of one lemon and 1/2 cup warm water.  Stir well, gargle and spit it out.  Use it twice daily.

 STRESS

 Lavender, Clary Sage, Bergamot  Add 5 drops of each oil to 20 ml of carrier oil and give a full body massage or if time is limited massage the back, shoulders, neck and solar plexus as these areas hold a lot of the tension. Add a few drops of the essential oil to the bath.

WARTS
