Orange has been a wildly popular scent ever since Portuguese explorers brought sweet oranges from Asia to Europe in the 1520’s. Christopher Columbus loved them so much that he brought them with him to the New World.

But did you know that you can make this scent part of your aromatherapy routine?

Sweet orange is one of my go-to essential oils! I keep it in my medicine cabinet because it instantly brings a smile to my face. I also love blending it with other oils. In fact, it’s a main ingredient in some of my most popular blends — including Autumn Blend, Spring Blend, Citrus Delight, Holiday Bliss, Digestive Body Oil, and Detoxing Body Oil.

What makes sweet orange oil different?

When you think of an orange, you probably think of the juicy, tasty, fleshy insides. However, sweet orange oil actually comes from the outer peel, thanks to a special cold pressing technique. Just like its fleshy counterpart, orange oil has a sweet, warm, rounded aroma.

Orange oil — uses in aromatherapy

In addition to its great scent, aromatherapy experts love orange oil because it’s so versatile. You can literally use it from head to toe!

Sweet orange oil for digestion

Whether you’re battling abdominal distention and pain, indigestion, flatulence, nausea, vomiting, constipation, irritable bowel, or simply poor eating choices, orange oil can help. It’s a hepatic stimulant and cholagogue — meaning it can help bile flow better, making it easier for your body to digest fatty foods. It can also help normalize the peristaltic action in your intestines — meaning your gastrointestinal muscles will contract more smoothly — so that you don’t have spasms and cramps.

Simply mix 7 drops of orange with 7 drops of ginger, and 1 ounce of carrier oil, and massage your abdomen with it.

Dec 16 2014 how to avoid holiday stress
As much fun as it is to deck the halls and unwrap presents, the holiday season can also be incredibly stressful.  Between finding time to bake gooey goodies, buying budget-friendly gifts, and entertaining countless family members, it’s no wonder you’re feeling frazzled!

Luckily, though, the right aromatherapy regimen can get you through it.  Here’s what I recommend doing to eliminate all of that holiday stress:

1.  Breathe

A little bit of fresh air can go a long way — especially when you combine it with the right essential oils!  Squeeze a drop of Eucalyptus radiata or Winter Blend (with Eucalyptus, Lavender and Grapefruit essential oils) onto your scarf, and head outside for a 10 minute walk.  As you breathe deeply, you’ll start to feel more positivity.  That’s because eucalyptus physically and emotionally opens up your chest, so you’ll get even more of that awesome fresh air than you would otherwise.  And, because eucalyptus is a proven mood-booster, it will quickly knock out your stress.  It’s a powerful 1-2 punch!

2.  Take a bath

Does anything feel better after a long, stressful, cold day than a warm bath?  No way!  But to get the most out of your bath, add 1/4 cup of Aromandina’s Andean Bath Soak to the water.  Made with mineral-rich pink Andean salts, soothing Epsom salt, and relaxing essential oils, you’ll be able to soak away all of the stress.  I like to call it “cleaning your heart”!

You can take this bath time indulgence a step further by choosing an Andean “flavor” that’s right for you.  For example, ALIVIO is great for soothing sore muscles, while EXULTO is especially uplifting.  SERENO is the perfect way to help us have a restful sleep, and RESPIRO can open up your sinuses as you fight off those pesky winter germs.  Or, if you want to turn bath time into couple’s time, opt for ROMANCE.  No matter which one you choose, all of your holiday stress will go right down the drain!

3.  Keep your energy level high

Sounds easier said than done, right?!  Luckily, though, having enough energy to survive the holidays is as easy as misting your face.  I created ALERTA body mist to be a pick-me-up that works in seconds.  No matter how busy you are this holiday season, you’ve got a few spare seconds!  ALERTA is made with peppermint, spearmint, cardamom, and rosemary, so it can stimulate both mind and body.  Personally, I use it all the time — like while I’m driving, cooking, and working.  That way, I have all the energy I need, without filling my body up with caffeine-laden coffee.

As the temperature goes up, so does the number of activities you want to do. After all, summer was made for hanging out on the beach, hosting cookouts, and moving your workout out into the sun at the local park. But all of those scorching hot days can do a number on you. If you really want to have a cool summer, you’ve got to keep yourself cool!

Luckily, it’s easy to do with the right blend of essential oils!

Essential Oils for the Summer

Summer is easily the most awaited season of the year because it signifies manifestation and complete expression – nature is in her full bloom, and the dullness and lethargy of winter is wiped away by the brilliant rays of the sun. Indeed, there is so much you can do and achieve when the weather is on your side!Young woman drinking water outdoors. Summer inspires you to channel your energies and turn your thoughts into action. It is the time when your body, mind, heart and spirit are energized and motivated to the highest degree. It is also the perfect season for sports and outdoor activities. However, even when you are all charged-up and enthusiastic to get things done, it is important to protect yourself from the heat and keep yourself cool and refreshed so that you don’t lose focus. To help you make the most of this delightful season, Aromandina has introduced a brand new Summer Blend as part of our Aromatherapy For The Seasons Series. An invigorating mix of Spearmint and Lemongrass essential oils, the Aromandina Summer Essential Oil Blend is just what you need to keep yourself in top shape when the mercury rises. Spearmint has natural cooling properties that help you stay calm and keep “hot” emotions like anger frustration and irritability at bay. It also enhances alertness and concentration, especially when the heat begins to get to you. Lemongrass has a refreshing scent that acts as a stimulant for the entire body, keeping you energetic and active all day long. It also promotes mental clarity and balance. Lemongrass is also known to possess antimicrobial and antifungal properties, which make it an excellent skin tonic and natural deodorant for hot summer months. There are several ways to use this amazing blend on a day to day basis:
  • After a long tiring day outdoors, pour 5 drops of this blend into a bowl full of iced water, dunk a towel in it, wring it out and wipe your skin with it.
  • If you are going to work or play outdoors for a prolonged period, simply wrap the wet towel around your neck to regulate your body temperature and prevent exhaustion and heat strokes!
This summer, keep your mind free of useless thoughts and revel in the breeze of coolness that the Aromandina Summer Essential Oil Blend brings. Looking forward to summer, are we?

The day I discovered Litsea Cubeba, I immediately fell in love with it.   More than the oil’s beautiful, intense, citrusy scent, it was its versatility that impressed me.  You can tell how much I appreciate Litsea Cubeba’s fragrance and therapeutic properties by the fact that I have used it as a main ingredient in many of my best-selling blends, including Alegria Essential Oil Blend and Energia Essential Oil.
If you have been trying to use certain essential oils that you know are beneficial for your health but don’t quite like their scent, just combine them with a few drops of Litsea Cubeba – you will find that this wonderful oil can make any blend a pleasant-smelling one!
