Atlas Cedarwood

Many people may not necessarily take to Atlas Cedarwood’s intense earthy-woody scent, but when they find out about its amazing properties, especially with respect to cellulite, they embrace it immediately. Unlike most essential oils, which are extracted from flowers, fruits or leaves, Cedarwood essential oil is extracted from the tree, and I believe that its inherent “grounding” qualities come from this aspect.

A tree is solid and well-rooted, right? If you lean on a tree, does it complain? Does it feel overwhelmed? Does it feel as if it is buckling under the pressure?  No.

Mar 28 2011 Effective and sustainable weight loss happens after several stages. In the course of this article, we will see how essential oils aid the process at every stage, from controlling appetite to feeling confident about your body. To work on a weight-loss regimen, aromatherapy must essentially be used in conjunction with an appropriate diet, exercise and a healthy lifestyle. Aromatherapy harmonizes the mind, body and soul in a way that allows people to prepare better for a weight-loss program and derive the maximum benefit. How do essential oils work for weight loss? Essential oils help shape up the body through a multi-tiered approach:
  • Some oils like cedarwood, grapefruit, orange and rosemary can help purge the body of toxins and retained fluids
  • Other essential oils energize the mind so that you are less tempted to skip your workout routine. Try peppermint, cardamom, rosemary
  • Some essential oils infuse a sense of positive energy and help boost up confidence and body image. Use ylang ylang, clary sage, litsea cubeba. When you feel all fresh and charged-up, you have little reason to flop on the couch with a tub of ice cream.
Curb those Cravings Have you noticed how the aroma from freshly baked bread makes your tummy rumble and beg for food? It is because the nose sends a message to the brain that in turn signals the stomach to feel hungry. Just like some smells enhance appetite; there are some smells that curb it. When you start eating with a sense of fullness and satisfaction, you will naturally end up eating less. The scent of essential oils like fennel, grapefruit and spearmint can stimulate the hypothalamus, which is the center of hunger and satiety in the brain and thus neutralizes the urge to keep stuffing our body with food. These oils also promote a sense of positive energy and well-being that negates all factors that lead to comfort eating.
  • Always have these essential oils at hand
  • When you are craving something or are feeling hungry or before eating a meal, open bottle and take three sniffs in each nostril
  • Breathe very deeply
  • The more you use it, the more effective it will be.
Flush out the Toxins Unhealthy food, lack of physical activity and hormonal fluctuations can cause body cells to retain excess fluids and fats. Oils of rosemary, cedarwood and orange are potent detoxifying agents that enhance lymphatic flow and eliminate excess fluids and toxins from the body. Orange oil stimulates the liver, enhances the flow of bile and aids fat metabolism. Mix 15 drops of each essential oil and add it to a 4 oz bottle of carrier oil.  After shower, massage over body in a circular motion. More effective when used twice a day   Think Positive, Feel Great Stress and depression trigger a vicious cycle of fat accumulation in the body by increasing the level of cortisol in the blood. People battling the bulge are often plagued by feelings of self-doubt and insecurity. It is commonly observed that self-pity coupled with a lack of confidence can throw a fitness plan completely off-track. Once the mind is healthy, a fit body will not be far out of reach. A self-assured and positive person is more likely to stick to a weight-loss regimen because positive energy inspires determination and a will to succeed. Citrus essential oils like bergamot and lemon are also called the “happy oils”. Put two drops on a tissue.  Close your eyes. Take three slow, relaxed, deep breaths and visualize your mind being clear of negative thoughts and feelings. Photos by pinksherbet References:

How do essential oils work for weight loss?

Essential oils help shape up the body through a multi-tiered approach:

·Some oils like cedarwood, grapefruit, orange, rosemary can help purge the body of toxins and retained fluids

·Other essential oils energize the mind so that you are less tempted to skip your workout routine. Try peppermint, cardamom, rosemary

·Some essential oils infuse a sense of positive energy and help boost up confidence and body image. Use ylang ylang, clary sage, litsea cubeba. When you feel all fresh and charged-up, you have little reason to flop on the couch with a tub of ice cream.

Curb those Cravings

Have you noticed how the aroma from freshly baked bread makes your tummy rumble and beg for food? It is because the nose sends a message to the brain that in turn signals the stomach to feel hungry. Just like some smells enhance appetite; there are some smells that curb it. When you start eating with a sense of fullness and satisfaction, you will naturally end up eating less.

Essential oils like fennel, grapefruit and spearmint stimulate the hypothalamus, which is the center of hunger and satiety in the brain and thus neutralizes the urge to keep stuffing our body with food. These oils also promote a sense of positive energy and well-being that negates all factors that lead to comfort eating.

Flush out the Toxins

Unhealthy food, lack of physical activity and hormonal fluctuations can cause body cells to retain excess fluids and fats.

Oils of rosemary, cedarwood and geranium are potent detoxifying agents that enhance lymphatic flow and eliminate excess fluids and toxins from the body. Orange oil stimulates the liver, enhances the flow of bile and aids fat metabolism.

Think Positive, Feel Great

Stress and depression trigger a vicious cycle of fat accumulation in the body by increasing the level of cortisol in the blood. People battling the bulge are often plagued by feelings of self-doubt and insecurity. It is commonly observed that self-pity coupled with a lack of confidence can throw a fitness plan completely off-track. Once the mind is healthy, a fit body will not be far out of reach. Aug 16 2010 You eat healthy and exercise well but the scales refuse to budge? Sleep deprivation could be the reason! Medical research has established a strong link between sleep patterns and weight management. Turns out that improper and inadequate sleep can send your hormones and metabolism in a tizzy causing you to feel hungrier than usual and keeping your body from burning fat reserves. Here’s how a lack of sleep will affect your weight loss efforts: 1.- More cravings Physical and emotional stress is directly associated with higher levels of cortisol (also called the ‘stress hormone’) in the blood. This hormone interferes with the satiety center in the brain and makes you feel hungry even after you’ve had a meal. So the next time you reach out for some comfort food, you know what to blame. 2.- Slow metabolism Fewer hours of deep sleep can also result in lower levels of the growth hormone – the one that develops muscle mass and metabolizes fatty tissue. It doesn’t take a nuclear scientist to figure out where that will take you. Also, a tired body is ill-equipped to metabolize carbohydrates and tends to store them as fats. Slow metabolism increases blood sugar which may lead to insulin resistance, cardiovascular disease, hypertension and diabetes. 3.- Low energy levels Lack of sleep can rrestrict your performance and productivity in all areas of life. A fatigued body responds dully to fitness plans and makes you less alert, focused and sharp. Doesn’t that give you enough reasons to grab some zzzz ? Here are some of my favorite essential oils with natural sedative properties: If you have been dealing with a sleep disorder or just plain old stress, here are some aromatherapy solutions that can help you get some sweet slumber. For best results use a combination of 2 or more of the above mentioned oils:
    1) Put a drop or 3 drops of essential oil on a tissue and tuck it under your pillow case.
    2) Add 10 drops of essential oils to a ¼ cup of Epsom salts and mix it in your bath water. Think relaxing thoughts and feel all your worries just melt away.
      3) Mix 1 oz of
Carrier Oil
with a total 15 drops of sedative essential oils. Take ¼ teaspoon of this body oil blend and massage onto your solar plexus area, the area where all your worries and negative feelings reside. As you massage that area, you will free yourself from all stress and negative emotions.

Good night and sleep tight!

Aromandina recommends: Sereno line, a perfect combination of sedative oils: Lavender, Mandarin, Marjoram, Petitgrain, Sandalwood and Palo Santo. Photo by Kodomut

Apr 30 2010 Spring Cleaning copy

It’s springtime and there are changes happening all around us – the weather is warming up and life is undergoing a process of awakening and renewal.
Although spring is always associated with positivity and freshness, the season does have a considerable impact on our mind, body and emotions.

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), spring is represented by the wood element and it is that time of the year when our body is most susceptible to wind-cold imbalances that mostly affect the liver and gall bladder.

Problems like depression, hepatitis and vernal catarrh (allergic conjunctivitis or ‘pink eye’) are believed to stem from these imbalances.

The liver is the primary cleansing and detoxifying organ of the body that regulates blood circulation, hormones, metabolism, digestion and subsequently our emotions too.
In women, it may affect the menstrual cycle and reproductive health. The function of the gall bladder is to secrete bile and assist the liver in all its functions to ensure the smooth flow of energy throughout the body.
Experts believe that the health of the liver and gall bladder can affect our decision-making abilities and have an impact on the quality of life.
TCM also theorizes that anger and depression are the dominant emotions during spring that are fanned by rapid changes in the weather, environment and length of the days. It is said that these changes interfere with the levels of the hormone melatonin in our body resulting in mood swings and temper problems.
You may be suffering from an imbalance if you experience one or more of the following signs and symptoms: Inadequate sleep or disturbed sleep patterns

  • Dry, watery or itchy eyes

  • Irregular bowel movement

  • A feeling of fullness or bloating

  • Chest congestion

  • Menstrual irregularities or severe PMS symptoms

  • Mild to severe depression

  • Anger

  • Frequent emotional outbursts and restlessness

Keeping all causes and their effects in mind, a wellness regimen during the spring season should aim at strengthening immunity, purging the body of toxins and maintaining emotional balance. Essential oils, when carefully chosen and correctly used, can help achieve this goal. Here are some essential oils that are perfect for the season:

DIGESTION, CRAVINGS  AND HELP WITH TRANSITIONS:

Fennel, Grapefruit and Spearmint Essential Oils are my first options.

Fennel aids digestion and helps an individual cope with lifestyle and environmental changes.

Grapefruit acts like a tonic for the lymphatic system and the gall bladder and helps dispel negative emotions like anger and irritability.

Spearmint has a refreshing and purifying scent that uplifts the spirits.

This blend can help you resist food cravings and emotional eating.

Aromandina Recommends: CLARO Essential Oil

DETOXING AND PURIFICATION:

Essential oils  like Atlas Cedarwood , Rosemary and Fennel promote lymphatic drainage, improve circulation and release excess fluids and toxins. This takes care of any water retention and you feel lighter and more energized.
Orange Essential Oil enhances the function of the liver, encourages the flow of bile and aids fat metabolism.
Massage all over your body twice a day for best results.
Aromandina Recommends: Detoxing Body Oil

FEELING UNDER THE WEATHER?
The uplifting scent of citrus essential oils is just what you need when you need that quick pick me up.
Bergamot Essential Oil restores a positive state of mind and wards away feelings of depression, anxiety and under-confidence.
The zesty notes of Lemon Essential Oil energize and rejuvenate the senses while the fruity scent of Grapefruit Essential Oil helps maintain mental, physical and emotional balance.
Aromandina Recommends: Citrus Delight

HORMONAL IMBALANCES: Geranium Essential Oil supports the adrenal cortex and helps take care of hormonal imbalances.
Clary Sage Essential Oil has a calming effect on the mind and alleviates depression and irritability during PMS.
Lavender Essential Oil helps to maintain a positive state of mind and keep your mood cheerful and upbeat.

Aromandina Recommends: RADIARE

Spring is nature’s way of celebrating a new beginning – keep your health up and your spirits high so that you may enjoy the season in all its glory.
