Aromatherapy can give you some big-time benefits, but only if you approach it the right way. Things like Facebook and Pinterest have given everyone a platform to share information — but, unfortunately, most people aren’t aromatherapy experts. That means they may be giving you advice that’s downright dangerous!

I’ve got formal aromatherapy training, and I’ve spent more than 15 years practicing as a certified aromatherapist. As a result, I know that some of the advice you see floating around out there can come with serious consequences.

Like what?

Take lemon oil as an example. You’ve probably seen people spouting off all the benefits of it, but if you add even just a few drops into your water glass and drink it on a daily basis, it can burn your mouth, esophagus, and digestive tract! Yes, essential oils are all-natural, but their chemical composition can be toxic if you don’t use them the right way.

So, what IS the right way to use essential oils?

If you want to make sure you’re using your essential oils safely, stick to these 5 rules:

essential oils for meditation

The multiple health and spiritual benefits of meditation have been known to mankind since centuries, and now there are scientific studies to prove it.

Ever wonder why meditation is so refreshing?

The reasons are simple and straightforward. Meditation

  • Slows down the pulse rate
  • Calms the nervous system
  • Regulates the physiological functions of the body
  • Brings brain activity to a “sleep-like” state

As the temperature goes up, so does the number of activities you want to do. After all, summer was made for hanging out on the beach, hosting cookouts, and moving your workout out into the sun at the local park. But all of those scorching hot days can do a number on you. If you really want to have a cool summer, you’ve got to keep yourself cool!

Luckily, it’s easy to do with the right blend of essential oils!

Aromatherapy is one of the best natural remedies for summer’s heat because it cools you down without creating any strange side effects.

We want you to enjoy your time outdoors, so we have created a special recipe to help.

Natural remedy to prevent heat stroke and heat exhaustion

My first essential oil blend of choice is SUMMER BLEND.

It’s a great way to stay cool with aromatherapy, because it contains spearmint and lemongrass — all of which have natural cooling properties! These essential oils  can eliminate the germs on your skin that you get on a hot, sweaty day, along with making your mind a little sharper.

Here’s a simple compress method for you:

  1. Mix 4 drops of Summer Blend with 1 tsp of salt in a bowl.

  2. Fill bowl with iced water

  3. Soak a towel into the mixture, wring it out

  4. Wrap it around your neck

You’ll instantly feel cool, calm, and collected!

Did you know that such a day exists? Neither did I!

The Storytelling Manager of Ford Motor Company contacted me on Friday and told me about this day.  The conversation that followed was so interesting that I though it would be great to share it with my readers:

Good morning, Cristina

My name is Dan Mazei, and I work in the communications team at Ford Motor Company. I realize an e-mail from Ford may sound strange, but I swear I have a good reason to be reaching out today.

I’m not sure if you know, but this Saturday is National Sense of Smell Day. As odd as that may sound to most people, I’m sure you can appreciate a day that recognizes our built-in ability to improve our lives through smell (like with essential oils and aromatherapy).

With this in mind, Ford partnered up with the world’s foremost experts on scent, ScentAir, to come up with the Top 7 Aromas for a Less Stressful Drive – the little things we can do to make our commutes, errand runs, road trips and family vacations more relaxing and comfortable.

I’d love to send you the full list, if you’re interested. These are not products, but rather general scents your readers could go out and apply on their own. I think they’d really enjoy seeing this.

Please let me know your thoughts when you can.

Natural air freshner
From that garlic you cooked last night, to the dog’s muddy feet, it doesn’t take much for strange smells to pop up around your home.  But whether you’re fighting a certain odor or you simply want to get rid of that stale smell, synthetic air fresheners AREN’T the way to go.

I know… the commercials make them seem like little gifts from the heavens.  A few sprays, and your home smells fresh and vibrant.  Unfortunately, what those commercials DON’T mention is that these air fresheners are full of dangerous chemicals that can cause everything from migraines to asthma attacks.  Plus, synthetic air fresheners don’t remove odors.  They only mask them!
