Geranium Essential Oil
I have always loved Geranium Essential Oil for its sweet flowery fragrance, and because of its versatility, it is undoubtedly among my favorite essential oils.

The best thing about Geranium essential oil is that it can be used for so many things, and suits everyone. Women in particular will love Geranium for its beauty-enhancing and balancing properties. I discovered them long ago, which is why I have used it in several of my women-centric products such as Alivio Circulation Body Oil, Hair Elixir For Dry Hair, Radiare Essential Oil Blend and  Woman’s Help Body Oil.

The world of essential oils is indeed very fascinating; the more you learn about them, the more you will want to make up your own concoctions. To help you with day-to-day applications of essential oils, I have compiled a list of common ailments along with recommended oils for each and their method of use.  This guide will also help you decide which essential oils are best suited for you.

Tea Tree, Geranium and Lavender Add 3 drops of each to 1 oz of Jojoba Oil .  Put some of the oil on your fingertips and apply on the face with press and release over face and neck.

Alegria Blend, Citrus Delight Blend, Rose Absolute  Put 3 drops of the either blend on a tissue, place it under the nose and inhale directly.  This method is recommended for an instant effect. Mix 10 drops of one of these blends with 1/4 cup unscented salts, to a bath and soak for 15 minutes.

One of the most common questions I get is how to use aromatherapy to relieve sore muscles and joints.  Luckily, aromatherapy can be a powerful, all-natural painkiller — but only if it’s used the right way.  Since pain and inflammation can be caused by so many things and affect so many different areas, your specific aromatherapy blend will depend on where it hurts! Some essential oils — like Peppermint, Chamomile, Marjoram, just to name a few — are great at localized pain relief.  All you have to do is rub them over the affected area, (always diluted in a carrier oil), and they’ll give you instant relief.  They can be a great remedy for things like arthritis, gout, tendinitis, and muscle soreness. In fact, many of these essential oils contain some of the same ingredients as the common over the counter pain relievers.  The only difference is that essential oils aren’t mixed with a bunch of chemicals!  Because they’re all-natural, you won’t have any of the nasty side effects that can come with traditional painkillers. Other essential oils — Lavender, Birch, Ginger being just a few examples — are great at making their way through your skin and working deep inside your body to get rid of the inflammation and toxins that are leaving you in severe pain.

So, how can you reap the benefits of these painkilling essential oils at home?

Make your own hot and cold compresses following this recipe: –        Start with two empty bowls –        Put one teaspoon of salt in each bowl –        Add 2 drops each of Blue Chamomile, Lavender, and Helichrysum to both bowls –        Fill one bowl with hot water; the other with iced water –        Soak a small towel in each bowl, and squeeze out the excess water –        Apply the hot compress for 1 minute –        Apply the cold compress for 1 minute –        Keep alternating compresses for 15 minutes

Want another way to take advantage of pain relief aromatherapy at home?

Massage the area where it hurts.  That way, you can boost your circulation and chase out toxins.  All you need to do is pick the right oil for your specific needs, and massage it into your skin every day.  Luckily, we’ve got two popular (and powerful) blends that can give you the relief you need: –        If you’re dealing with localized pain and inflammation, Pain Begone Body Oil is a great blend.  With a mixture of Birch, Peppermint, Ravensara, and Lavender, you’ll get a natural analgesic and anti-inflammatory. –        If you’ve got circulation problems — especially if you’re stuck standing all day at work — try Circulation Body Oil.  A combination of Cypress, Geranium, Ginger, and Niaouli will stimulate your blood flow and prevent uric acid from building up in your joints. And remember — muscle pain isn’t always caused by physical labor!  Sometimes, you can wind up in severe pain when you’re in the middle of a stressful situation or when you’re feeling anxious. I’ve found that the best way to calm down after a rough day (and to soothe aching muscles that are sore from all of that pent-up anxiety) is to soak in a hot bath with 1/4 cup of our Alivio Bath Soak.  This aromatic blend is specially-designed to relax your muscles and take pressure off your joints so that you can say goodbye to your pain in a matter of minutes.  It also helps detoxify your system so that you can feel better both inside and out. That’s why aromatherapy is so powerful — it addresses the physical and emotional causes of pain.   That way, you can benefit from holistic healing, no matter what’s causing your pain! If you’re sick of traditional painkillers and want a natural pain reliever that really works, try our Pain Relief Package! Related Articles:
Jul 11 2012 If your summer holiday is chock full of fun plans, the last thing you want is to feel under the weather.  However, all of those fun summer activities can expose you to germs, allergic reactions, and flat-out exhaustion. Luckily, it’s easy to make the most out of your summer holiday AND keep your health in tip-top shape! How?

 1. Relief for mosquito bites and allergic reactions

Allergy Calm Roll On with anti-inflammatory essential oils like Blue Chamomile, Lavender and Hyssop, is a powerful weapon in the fight against bug bites, sunburns, rashes, and other allergic reactions. It can even help your blisters and bruises heal faster — an absolute gift from the heavens when you try out those new hiking boots or spend the day getting bumped around in whitewater rapids! All you have to do is apply it liberally to the affected areas, and you’ll instantly feel better. After all, summertime is the perfect time to explore the great outdoors — but the last thing you want is for your dream summer holiday to turn into a nightmare because of itchy or burned skin!

2. Manage motion sickness

Even the best travel tips don’t offer much in the way of motion sickness. Unfortunately, though, whether your summer travel is by air, land, or sea, you can fall victim to motion sickness. Luckily, the essential oils in our Memoria Blend, Spearmint, Peppermint, Rosemary and Cardamom can help combat the headaches, fatigue, and sluggish feeling you get from all of that bumping, gliding, and driving. Just put 2 drops of oil on a paper towel, and inhale the scent. Or place the paper towel in the car’s air conditioning vents.

3. Reduce your chances of developing heat exhaustion and heat stroke

Want to enjoy the summer heat and stay safe? You’ll need plenty of water on hand. Another thing you need to have nearby? Essential oils with natural cooling properties — like Peppermint and Spearmint. When you spray your body and face with our Alerta Body Mist, it will lower your body temperature.  As a result, your odds of developing heat exhaustion and heat stroke go way down! You  will instantly feel refreshed, no matter how high the mercury climbs!

4.Get over jet lag

All of that summer travel can make you feel like a glamorous jet-setter. But, unfortunately, all of that jet-setting can leave you completely jet lagged — and that’s definitely not a glamorous feeling! Instead of downing a bunch of coffee or sleeping your summer holiday away, Lemon,  Grapefruit and Bergamot in our Citrus Delight Essential Oil Blend can really help. When you get to your destination, take a bath with 5 drops of this essential oil blend included to feel rejuvenated. Need some special treatment for your feet after running through the airport, standing in an endless line at security, and sitting cramped in coach? Just add 5 drops of Energia Essential Oil Blend to a bucket of warm water, and spend some time letting those poor feet soak.

5. Conquer your cold

You probably think of colds popping up during those damp, freezing winters — but a nasty cold can pop up during your summer holiday, too. If you don’t want to sniffle through your beach vacation, tap into the power of essential oils like Eucalyptus, Lavender, Ravensara, and Tea tree. All of these oils are included in our RESPIRO Immune Support Essential Oil Blend.  Put a couple of drops on a tissue and breathe deeply.

6. Loosen up sore muscles

Outdoor activities make you work all kinds of muscles that normally don’t see much action. Instead of pumping yourself full of ibuprofen at the end of the day, a simple aromatherapy blend can give you all the relief you need. Massage your sore areas with Pain Begone Body Oil.   That way, you can feel free to take on the day — without worrying about being in excruciating pain by nightfall! If all of that muscle soreness is accompanied by physical exhaustion, the essential oils in Energia Blend, Rosemary, Pine and Litsea Cubeba can instantly make you feel alert and refreshed. As helpful as aromatherapy is during the summer, you can take advantage of it all year long.  At Aromandina, you can learn how to use aromatherapy to boost your health 365 days a year! © 2012, Cristina Proano-Carrion, Aromandina LLC

Books on Emotional Aspects of Aromatherapy

Our sense of smell is deeply linked to our moods, emotions and feelings. To be able to use fragrances in the management of psychological ailments resulting from stress, hormonal changes and chemical imbalances, you need to be thorough with the effect of essential oils on our minds.

Aromatherapy for Healing the Spirit: Restoring Emotional and Mental Balance with Essential Oils

I took a class with Gabriel Mojay in 2002, bought his book, and ever since, I have been using it as a reference, almost every day! Gabriel Mojay combines his great knowledge of Traditional Chinese Medicine with Aromatherapy and helps you understand the underlying causes of several physical and mental ailments. He gives an elaborate description of each essential oil, including its origin, botanical properties, history and its application in aromatherapy and Traditional Chinese Medicine. He also describes in detail a long list of psychological ailments and the “5 Element Theory” to help you formulate an integrative approach towards managing the same. I have recommended recipes from this book to many of my clients who have been battling depression, anxiety and stress, and I found that the strength of essential oil blends increases manifold when combined with acupressure and traditional massage techniques. Even if you are a stranger to Oriental medicine, you will find it quite reader-friendly owing to the high quality illustrations on massage and acupuncture.

The Fragrant Mind: Aromatherapy for Personality, Mind, Mood and Emotion

This is another one of my all-time favorites from Valerie Ann Worwood. I have used this book so many times that it is already falling apart. If you want to understand the complex and intricate relationship smells and our mind, this book covers it from end to end. From addiction and anxiety to poor concentration and depression, Valerie explains how specific oils and blends work at a molecular level to change moods, improve self-esteem and bring happiness, harmony and peace into our lives. Every tip and recipe will bring you closer to a more positive frame of mind. The most interesting part of this book, however, is that helps you evaluate your particular personality type and find oils/blends that are best suited for you!

Vibrational Healing: Revealing the Essence of Nature through Aromatherapy and Essential Oils

This is an amazing resource for those who wish to complement their knowledge of aromatherapy with spiritual healing techniques such as Reiki, Reflexology and Traditional Chinese Medicine. Deborah Eidson, who is an experienced massage therapist, delves deep into the energetic properties of essential oils, and how they can be used to clear blockages, balance the chakras and regularize the flow of vital energy. I found her discussions on the spiritual powers of plants quite enchanting and she presents a convincing argument on how botanical extracts can be used for spiritual and organ healing as well as personal growth. I must say that this book has given me a fresh perspective on aromatherapy and has enabled me to help many clients who had deep-seated emotional issues or past traumas that were impinging onto their health and wellbeing.
