Be honest — how often do you think about giving your feet some TLC?  If you’re like most of us, you trudge along day after day, forcing your feet to (literally!) carry all the weight.  And if that wasn’t bad enough, you cram your poor feet into tight socks, gym shoes, and pinching high heels.  Unfortunately, you probably don’t give your feet a second thought until they start to hurt.

But it’s time for a change!  The right essential oils make it quick and easy to treat your feet to some serious pampering so that they can keep up with every step of your busy life.

Did you know that your feet have 72,000 nerve endings in them?  That’s why a foot massage feels so incredible!  But at the same time, it’s why your feet can get so achy and uncomfortable if you don’t take good care of them.  They need TLC if they’re going to do everything you need them to do.

I’ve come up with a variety essential oil blends that you can use to create your very own foot routine.  The best way to take full advantage of them is to start with a footbath.  In fact, herbalists and healers have been harnessing the power of footbaths for hundreds of years!  Whether you don’t have the time or the mobility for a full-body soak, a footbath is an easy way to give your feet some serious relief.  Even just a few minutes will make your tired feet feel rejuvenated, and that unpleasant foot odor will be gone.

There are a few different footbath recipes you can use.  For all of them, you’ll need to heat up 2 1/2 pints of water, pour it into a foot bowl, and add the essential oils listed below.  You’ll also need to add 1/4 cup of regular salt or Epsom salt. 

–  Footbath recipe for sweaty feet

4 drops Cypress essential oil
3 drops Bergamot essential oil 

–  Footbath recipe for tired, aching feet

3 drops Pine essential oil
4 drops Lavender essential oil 

–  Footbath for athlete’s foot

5 drops of Tea Tree essential oil
2 drops of Geranium essential oil
 
No matter which recipe you choose, let your feet soak for about 15 minutes — and be sure to inhale the aroma for an even bigger essential oil boost!  If the soles of your feet are really rough, rub them with a pumice stone once your bath is done.  In addition to sloughing off dead skin cells, this will improve the circulation in your feet.  Then, dab your feet dry. 

For a real feet treat, follow up your footbath with one of these special foot massage oils.  Again, you can pick the recipe that’s best suited for your specific foot issues.  In each of them, you’ll need to combine the essential oils listed with 1 ounce of carrier oil.

–  Foot oil for walkers, joggers and runners

5 drops Rosemary essential oil
3 drops Peppermint essential oil
4 drops Lavender essential oil

–  Foot oil for swollen feet

5 drops Ginger essential oil
5 drops Cypress essential oil
2 drops Lavender essential oil

–  Foot oil to combat fungus

Foot fungus is a common problem that leads to uncomfortable symptoms like itching, burning, and pain.  Luckily, the right essential oil blend can ward off this unfriendly fungus.  By using antifungal essential oils you can finally get some relief.  Just apply this aromatherapy blend to your feet on a daily basis and  you’ll be able to bid bon voyage to all of that yucky fungus!

5 drops Tea Tree essential oil
4 drops Geranium essential oil
3 drops Lavender essential oil

Since ages, humans have tapped into nature’s abundant resources to nurture their children and help them stay healthy.

Aromatherapy is a modern, yet simple extension of this concept as it captures nature’s goodness and healing power in tiny bottles.

Aromatherapy for babies is gaining popularity because it is completely non-invasive, does not involve subjecting your little one to harsh medicines and the best of all – your baby will love the pleasant and soothing fragrances.

When it comes to using essential oils for babies, many parents have concerns regarding safety and side effects of aromatherapy. As a professional aromatherapist with 17 years of experience and a mother of a very healthy teenager, I can confidently vouch for the safety of aromatherapy for babies. Ever since my son was born, I have used only essential oils to handle common conditions that kids encounter. I am proud to say that in the fifteen years of his life, my son hasn’t had any condition that didn’t resolve with essential oils.

My sister had a beautiful baby and I have been very fortunate to take care of him every Saturday.  It is an absolute joy to have him at our home on weekends, watch him grow, learn and in turn, learn a little from him. I use this bonding time to treat my nephew to the benefits of essential oils, just as I did with my son. My personal experiences have inspired me to write this article and share useful tips not only to address common ailments, but to help parents enhance their babies’ general wellbeing with the use of nature’s essential oils.

Aromatherapy for Restful Sleep

Most new parents would give their eyes and teeth for something that would help their baby sleep soundly so that they can grab a few moments of peace for themselves. I gave my sister a special blend of Lavender, Mandarin, Marjoram and Palo Santo – she just puts a couple of drops on a cotton pad and places it on one corner of my nephew’s bed, under the sheets.  The baby has been sleeping through the night since he was eight weeks old!

Aromatherapy for Boosting Immunity

Some essential oils like Lavender and Tea Tree are believed to stimulate the production of T-cells (immune cells) and strengthen the body’s immune system.  Mix 1 drop of Lavender essential oils with 1 tablespoon of unscented shower gel and add it to bath water. This recipe, when used on a weekly basis, will help your child ward off disease-causing organisms as he learns to explore the world around him.

Aromatherapy Baths for Babies

When you do not have the time for an elaborate massage, a few drops of essential oils added to your baby’s bath water will do just fine. Here’s how you can make your baby’s bathing ritual more pleasant and enriching: Fill the bath with warm water and add the chosen oil or blend. Do not use more than 2 drops of essential oils for babies under the age of 2 years. To make the oils disperse adequately in water, always mix them first with 1 tablespoon salt or a fragrance-free shampoo/ body wash. Baths should be for babies 6 months or older

  • For colds and congestion, use 2 of Frankincense essential oil.

  • For tummy troubles, use a drop each of German Chamomile and Mandarin essential oils.

  • To help your baby sleep better, mix a drop each of Lavender and Mandarin essential oils.

  •  If your baby is often restless and irritable, use 2-3 drops of Ylang Ylang and Sandalwood essential oils to help calm your baby and make him cheerful.

  • Clary Sage and Frankincense essential oils are great for an evening bath, just before tucking your little angel in bed. These oils are rejuvenating in nature and can help relieve tired muscles.

Natural Carpet Cleanser

DID YOU KNOW?

According to Author Jean Valnet there are  5 pathogenic organisms 1 cubic meter of the Forest of Fontainbleu and 20.000 in a Paris flat.
Now, here’s the scary part…

How many pathogenic organisms does a square meter of carpet have?
a) 500.000
b) 2 million
c) 9 million

That’s right, you guessed it!

A carpet has around 9 million microbes per square meter.

Another great factor is that essential oils have highly antiseptic, antiviral and antibacterial properties. 

Choose the scent of preference,  I personally like Tea Tree, Eucalyptus, Ravensara, Pine, Lemon, Bergamot, Lavender, sometimes Cinnamon, sometimes some Spruce.

Here’s an example of a yummy carpet blend. Feel free to be creative and use the oils you prefer.

1 cup of baking soda

10 drops Eucalyptus essential oil
10 drops Ravensara essential oil
10 drops Bergamot essential oil

Put baking  soda in a widemouthed glass jar, add the oils, one by one and shake it very well. 

Tighten the cap.  Let it rest for 24 hours  so that the essential oils permeate the powder. 

Before vacuuming sprinkle over the carpet and leave it for 1 hour.

This recipe can cover up to 2000 square feet.
