Many of my clients love Ylang Ylang, many of my clients hate Ylang Ylang.  And that’s understandable. Ylang Ylang is one of those essential oils that you either love or hate, not much in between. This article is for the Ylang Ylang lovers, and for the Ylang Ylang haters.  The lovers will love it even more, the haters, will learn to like it and blend it with other essential oils so that the sweet heavy perfume won’t be much noticed, but the amazing therapeutic effect will!

Origin:

Ylang Ylang essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the flowers of the Cananga odorata tree. These trees are native to the Philippines and Indonesia and it also grows in Polinesia, Comoros and Madagascar.

Aroma:

Floral, heady, exotic, intensely sweet

Emotional Balance:

Ylang Ylang is exotic, intense and exciting. it’s believed that its healing properties can help in cases of impotence and frigidity. It can help dispel feelings of anger, jealousy and envy. With its sensual and soothing aroma, helps restore self-confidence and allows you to express  and appreciate your inner beauty. It  is relaxing and mildly sedative – especially useful if you have been battling stress and mental fatigue. It is helpful in dealing with anxiety, panic, and shock having a relaxing effect on the nervous system. It is also believed to help feelings of resentment, guilt and jealousy.

Ylang Ylang flowers are strewn on the beds of newly married South-Asian couples on their wedding night – need we say more?

Properties:

Antiseptic, antidepressant, calming and sedative, tones the circulatory system. It is considered to be helpful in cases of high blood pressure, combine 5  drops of Ylang Ylang, 5 Lavender, 5 Mandarin with 1 0z Carrier Oil  and apply on body daily. It has a balancing effect on the hormones and is a tonic for the uterus.

Ylang Ylang Uses For Skin Care

You can use it for both oily and dry skin, since it has a balancing effect on sebaceus production.  It is suitable for all skin types. For oily skin combine 1 oz Golden Jojoba Oil with 5 drops Ylang Ylang, 3 drops Rosemary and 2 drops of Geranium. Apply liberally on your face day and night. For dry skin combine 5 drops of Ylang Ylang, 5 drops of Lavender and 5 drops of Rose Absolute.  Apply liberally on your face day and night.

Mixes well with:

Clary Sage, Geranium, LavenderLemon, Bergamot, Orange, Patchouli.

Yes, the season of romance is here and most of us are looking for ways to make it special for our dear ones. Is it any coincidence that February is officially named the ‘American Heart Month’?

The second month of the year also brings our focus to the “emotional health” of the heart as well as our relationship with our loved ones and ourselves. The “heart” is home to the most complex emotions – both positive and negative.   A person who does not love himself enough can never have any love to give others, and a heart filled with jealousy, envy, rage and revenge can never forge a positive trusting bond. Therefore, the two secret ingredients for fulfilling romantic relationships are purity of the heart and self-love.

Nature has gifted us with essential oils for romance and sexuality that help in this journey towards self-realization and set the stage for enriching and satisfying relationships by:

Whenever I think of dirt (physical or emotional), the first thing that comes to my mind is the cleansing properties of citrus essential oils. Even commercial cleaning products contain extracts of citrus, don’t they?

  • Lemon: Like a ray of sunshine, lemon essential oil brightens up your life and washes away all impurities and negative feelings.

  • Sweet Orange: The scent of Sweet Orange is warming, comforting and “fodder for the heart”. It encourages you take things in good humor and absolves emotional confusion.

  • Put 3 drops of each oil in an aromatherapy burner to create a sexy ambiance.

Stress, fatigue, frustration and lethargy – does any of this sound familiar to you? 
If so, you are among the millions of people who battle 40-hour workweeks, stuffy cubicles and long hours in front of the computer screen almost every day.
As a working person, you probably spend a larger part of the day at your workplace and yet, you have little or no control over your work environment.
While you can’t do much to change the structure of your workplace of the nature of your job, you can certainly make your office surroundings more pleasant, conducive and supportive with the help of aromatherapy.

Here, we address how stress can affect our performance and explain how aromatherapy can help alleviate these problems.  All it takes is a few vials of essential oils and a few minutes of your time.

Mental and Emotional Stress

Every job comes with its own set of stressors. There are deadlines to meet, targets to achieve and that inherent sense of competitiveness that pushes us to perform better . While “positive stress” leads to motivation, creativity and increased productivity, “negative stress” can erode a person’s spirit and results in:

  • chronic frustration

  • lack of energy

  • inability to cope with pressure

If you ever find yourself leaning towards the latter, you can always count on essential oils to bail you out. Mental stress can often be attributed to anguish over unfinished tasks or financial worries.

Recommended essential oils for Mental Stress:

Start with a healing combination of calming, stimulating and balancing essential oils. 
Combine 4 drops each of Lavender, Bergamot, Geranium and Cardamom essential oils with 1 Oz of carrier oil.
Apply this blend on the back of your neck, the solar plexus area and the soles of your feet twice a day to relax the mind, release the tension from tightened muscles and inspire you to take on new challenges with renewed enthusiasm.
You can also put 1 drop of each essential oil on a tissue and inhale directly during the day. 
Emotional stress may be borne out of relationship problems, conflicts with co-workers, lack of self-esteem, parental guilt or failure to strike the perfect work-life balance.

Recommended essential oils for emotional stress:

The nurturing scent of Sweet Orange, the warmth of Ginger and the uplifting properties of Clary Sage come together to form the perfect tonic for the soul.
Combine four drops of each with 1 Oz of carrier oil and massage the solar plexus, back of the neck and pulse points on the insides of your wrists with this blend twice a day.
Using 4 drops each of these oils in a diffuser or aromatherapy burner in your office is a great way to stay relaxed, happy and positive throughout the day
.

Lethargy

The next time you feel drained-out or drowsy when there is a whole lot of work lined up, don’t reach out for caffeine – give yourself a wake-up call with natural essential oils instead.
Fill a 1 Oz spray bottle with distilled water and add five drops each of Eucalyptus, Rosemary and Peppermint essential oils. Keep this bottle handy in your office and spray your face with eyes closed every time you find yourself slacking or losing focus.
The invigorating and stimulating properties of these oils will help you stay alert and active even during the infamous “after-lunch slump”.

Using essential oils in the workplace is effective, inexpensive and an all-natural way to boost your productivity and make the most of your work hours. It is also one of the few stress-busting remedies that your boss won’t object to and your co-workers will thank you for.
